Buick Dynaflow overhead valve inline eight-cylinder engine, dual Carter carburetors, three-speed sliding gear manual transmission, front and rear coil spring suspension with a semi-floating rear axle, four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 121" Buick’s history and reputation as a well engineered and reliable motor car dates back to 1904. David Dunbar Buick incorporated the Buick Motor Company on May 19, 1903 in Flint, Michigan. By 1905, William Crapo Durant had already taken control of the company and its success would lead to the formation of General Motors in 1908. The Buick Motor Company provided the firm foundation the emerging automotive giant required. As the decades passed the Buick nameplate became one of the most respected in the industry. Whereas many famous marques disappeared throughout the Depression, Buick sales remained steady and as the decade of the 1930s closed the model line-up began to expand. In 1940 the Series 50 returned as the new Buick Super available in four body styles. While the Super shared the same new “Torpedo Styling” as the Roadmaster, it was on a five-inch shorter chassis. The Super’s 121-inch wheelbase was the same as the Buick Special and it shared that model’s eight-cylinder engine. In the 1940s, a Buick was recognized as a vehicle for those of sophisticated taste. Buick’s widespread popularity maintained the Division’s fourth place in the sales race.
