The Lincoln-Zephyr was conceived by industry legends Edsel Ford and W.O. Briggs of the Briggs Body Company in 1932. Their shared desire was to create a mid-level Lincoln model to stimulate sales in the depression stricken economy and to rejuvenate the Lincoln brand. The name Zephyr was selected from the Greek word “zephyrus” meaning the god of the west wind and is a reference to the car’s aerodynamic shape. The design was entrusted to Dutch born designer John Tjaarda who originally envisioned a retuned Ford flathead V8 mounted in the rear. However upper Ford management including Henry Ford Sr. insisted that the Zephyr utilize existing Ford technology to minimize development cost. Lincoln’s chief engineer Frank Johnson designed the Zephyr V12 engine, which was heavily based off the flathead Ford V8. The 267ci power plant produced 110 horsepower and could propel the car up to a top speed of 90mph. The Lincoln-Zephyr was officially introduced to the market in November of 1935 as a 1936 model. Between 1936 and 1940 several body styles were offered including a fabulous 3-window coupe, the elegant town-limousine and the wonderfully appointed sedan for the family-minded customer. The Lincoln-Zephyr today is credited for saving the Lincoln brand of the Ford Motor Company. Examples in recent years have become exceedingly more difficult to procure, making the marque all more desirable to collectors seeking a prewar American classic with V12 power.
The 1937 Lincoln-Zephyr Sedan featured here is finished in stunning Zephyr Blue with an impeccably kept Tan Le Baron Bonney interior. This magnificent motorcar was recently released from over a decade of long term ownership. It has garnered multiple awards at several Concours shows including an award from the Lincoln-Zephyr Owners Club. The recipient of a meticulous restoration, this Lincoln lived the majority of its life in southern California until 2003 when it when it was acquired by a collector in southern Texas. This wondering driving example would be the perfect classic for Classic Car rallies and tours. We are proud to offer the incredible Lincoln-Zephyr to the most sophisticated collector, investor or enthusiast who understands and appreciates this pre-war American Classic. Finance rates as low as 8.9%.
We know that classic car financing can pose a unique challenge. Although a vintage or exotic car can be an excellent investment, some financial institutions attempt to apply standard “used car” rules for financing a classic car, which in many cases can make loan approval difficult.
We work closely with many banking institutions that understand and recognize the collector value of classic cars and view them as an investment, which allows us to help you get the financing you need so that you can have the car you have dreamed of.
