  • In 1964, Ford announced a complete makeover of their entire range. From the compact Falcon to the full-sized Galaxie and luxurious Thunderbird, the new Fords hit the mark with a crisp, balanced design and a range of excellent V8 engines from the compact 289 Challenger to the mighty 427. The Galaxie 500 XL looked lower and wider than ever thanks to its sculpted look designed to improve its aerodynamics for NASCAR and was the pick for buyers after a big, stylish cruiser with plenty of muscle to back up the sharp looks.

This particular car’s remarkable story begins in February of 1964, when Edgar Spenner, a farmer from Centralia, Illinois visited the annual Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place to have a gander at the latest models. When he reached the Ford stand, he was struck by the new Galaxie 500 XL Convertible and placed an order for one on the spot. Bucking the pragmatic Midwestern farmer stereotype, he ordered his Galaxie in top-line 500 XL trim and added many options including an X-code 352ci Interceptor V8, power steering, Cruise-O-Matic transmission, rear fender skirts, and a remote-operated rearview mirror. He also selected the appealing color scheme of Prairie Bronze (code P) with Medium Palomino Trim (code 89) with a white top.

Unfortunately, as Edgar drove his sparkling new Galaxie home from Bill-Rick Ford, he found himself disappointed by the feel of the power steering, and soon called the dealer in hopes of exchanging for a different example. Apparently, the dealer offered him a discounted trade-in price, which undoubtedly led to what we imagine was a heated exchange. Frustrated with his Ford and perhaps out of spite, Edgar parked the car in his barn after 73 miles and left it there until his passing. It eventually found its way to a prominent Museum, where it remained until our acquisition. We are proud to offer what is almost certainly the lowest mile, most original, and best example of an X-Code Galaxie 500 XL Convertible in the world. Because of this, I personally believe the investment potential of this virtually new 1964 Ford will grow beyond your imagination and proudly offer it to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own the very best!

    Financing

Finance rates as low as 8.9%.

We know that classic car financing can pose a unique challenge. Although a vintage or exotic car can be an excellent investment, some financial institutions attempt to apply standard “used car” rules for financing a classic car, which in many cases can make loan approval difficult.

We work closely with many banking institutions that understand and recognize the collector value of classic cars and view them as an investment, which allows us to help you get the financing you need so that you can have the car you have dreamed of.

Terms available up to 144 Months
