  • The 113 Mercedes-Benz Platform was introduced in the summer of 1963 as the 230SL. Designed to continue the SL line from the iconic 190SL and the legendary 300SL, the new SL was designed to provide a sporty driving experience with an adequate level of comfort. Its iconic “Pagoda” shape was defined by the removable hardtop and aluminum boot that concealed the convertible top when not in use. The large chrome grill and three pointed star upfront called back to the previous generation of SLs while customers were enticed by the fuel injected straight-six engine, excellent handling suspension and adequate brakes. The 280SL was first assembled in December 1967 and marked the third and final generation of the 113 chassis. With an upgraded 2.8 liter 195 horsepower engine, the 280SL marked the 113 chassis transition from a sporty two-seater to a finely appointed, adequately powered sports roadster. In the U.S., most 280SLs received a factory 4-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning. Considered by some to be the last classic SL, in recent years the 280SL has become a highly sought-after automobile by both collectors and motoring enthusiasts.

The 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Roadster featured here is finished in the rare two-tone color combination of Papyrus White with a stunning black interior and is accompanied by both matching convertible tops. This incredible example was sold new in Florida where it spent its entire life and has only traveled 27,063 miles from new. Having undergone only one sympathetic, concours level respray, this SL remains highly original with the factory spot welds in the engine compartment showcasing Mercedes-Benz’s craftsmanship. Accompanying this investment-grade 280SL is its original books, tool kit, data card copy from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center and more. The combination of incredible provenance, low miles and like new condition places this 280SL in an entirely different class. No one has owned more 280SLs than Daniel Schmitt & Co. and this is without question the best example we have ever seen and the best example in the world. Ready to make an investment you can actually enjoy? Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years with the Historic Automobile Group Index (HAGI) jumping 39% in 2013 and posting gains of 395-percent over the last 10-years. Please contact one of our expert sales consultants for more information. They will be happy to give you a complete walk-around, supply you with a more detailed description, and answer any questions you may have. This is an incredible opportunity to own one of the best examples in the world at an investment price. Buy with confidence.

    Financing

Finance rates as low as 5.9%.

We know that classic car financing can pose a unique challenge. Although a vintage or exotic car can be an excellent investment, some financial institutions attempt to apply standard “used car” rules for financing a classic car, which in many cases can make loan approval difficult.

We work closely with many banking institutions that understand and recognize the collector value of classic cars and view them as an investment, which allows us to help you get the financing you need so that you can have the car you have dreamed of.

Terms available up to 144 Months
