HISTORY OF THE 1952 CADILLAC SERIES 62 CONVERTIBLE: 190bhp 331 cu. in. overhead valve V8 engine with Hydramatic automatic transmission, independent coil spring front suspension, live rear axle and four-wheel power assisted drum brakes. Wheelbase: 115″ The early fifties were a time of wonder and excitement in America. The war was won and the GIs had returned home, starting families and building businesses. A seemingly insatiable demand for all products, especially automobiles, created one of the countrys greatest periods of economic expansion. The race to production after the war left no time for new designs all efforts were focused on returning prewar designs to production. By 1949, however, new models abounded, supply had caught up to demand and competition returned to the market. History would record that these factors would combine to stimulate the most exciting era of automotive excess. At the heart of it all was GMs traveling Motorama, a no-holds-barred display of dazzling technology and stunning styling. At the same time, Cadillac was doing well flashy styling and high performance made Cadillac the choice of a new generation of buyers. Young and exciting, Cadillac displaced Packard as the leader in the fine car market. New models were eagerly awaited, and 1952 was no exception. A host of minor updates freshened the new cars, but the big news was under the hood horsepower output was up a whopping 30bhp over 1951. Billed as Golden Anniversary Cadillacs, in recognition of the companys 50th anniversary, they were well received.
