HISTORY OF THE 1954 CADILLAC ELDORADO: 230bhp 331 cu. in. overhead valve V8 engine, Hydramatic transmission, independent coil spring front and semi-elliptical-leaf rear suspension with live axle and four-wheel power assisted drum brakes. Wheelbase: 129″ The early fifties were a time of wonder and excitement in America. The war was won, the GIs had returned home and were starting families and building businesses. The economy was booming and Americans had a seemingly insatiable appetite for all products, especially automobiles. History would record that these factors would combine to stimulate the most exciting era of automotive excess. At the heart of it all was GMs traveling Motorama, a no-holds-barred display of dazzling technology and stunning styling. At the same time, Cadillac was on a roll flashy styling and high performance made Cadillac the choice of the most successful of a new generation of buyers. Young and exciting, Cadillac displaced Packard as the leader in the fine car market. New models were eagerly awaited, and 1954 was no exception. Introduced in 1953 was the now legendary new Eldorado. The 1954 model was improved substantially over the 1953. Brake horsepower was increased to 230 and advertisements boasted smoother performance and quieter operation. The 12-volt system, which was standard by this time, had been improved making way for more power operated creature comforts. The example we are pleased to offer is fully equipped with all the standard amenities including the power windows, power seats and power top. Options include power steering and brakes, signal seeking radio, Autronic eye, wire wheels and E-Z Eye glass. Notably, it is complete with the desirable continental kit as well as the original hard parade boot. It has recently completed a lengthy complete frame-off restoration and is understood to be in near perfect overall condition. The eye-catching red paint and red leather interior with white trim is as luxurious as it was new. In addition to the exceptional cosmetic presentation of this example, we understand equal care was given to the mechanical systems throughout and all systems have been thoroughly restored. In the eyes of many collectors today, there is little doubt that the 1954 Eldorado is one of the most desirable postwar Cadillacs ever built.
