V8 engine, four-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension with coil springs, semi-elliptic rear leaf springs with live rear axle, power assisted front disc brakes and hydraulic rear drum brakes. Wheelbase: 109″ Ford Motor Company knew they had a winner with the Mustang, and actor Robert Hays knew he had a winner when in the late 1970s he bought his own “Mustang Sally”. This Highlander Green drop top from the model’s second year was a natural, offering a rich tone to show off the great bodywork and design of the car, plus a potent four-barrel small-block V8 that still got up and moved quite well. But this wasn’t purchased as a trailer queen or a show car, but for his daily drive to the studios. In the early 1980s, Hays was selected for a starring role in the hit comedy Airplane, in which he played the love-struck heroic pilot Ted Stryker, who against all odds landed a disabled airliner. Mustang Sally was his faithful steed, alternating rides with his 1966 Volkwagen mini-bus, making sure he made it to all his production calls as work on the film moved on. One day, the producer, Howard W. Koch, came up to Hays and said “We need your car!” It was to be used in a live shot pulling up to pick up Captain Rex Kramer, portrayed by veteran actor Robert Stack. During the filming, the car was also used in what is called a process shot with the actual car in the foreground a projected scene behind the vehicle. After Airplane hit the theaters, other acting jobs came along but Hays never lost his love for Mustang Sally. A few years back he decided to give this car a little treat, a full cosmetic restoration and a reconditioning as needed for mechanical and suspension components. During a move to a new home, Mustang Sally was left in the care of his friend and fellow Mustang enthusiast, Larry Harding to perform a sympathetic restoration. There was no rush, so the work was done at a relaxed pace, and with no major body damage and no rust-out, the sheet metal work was a snap. Completed just a few months ago, it was a difficult decision for Robert Hayes to let his beautiful car go to a new owner. After nearly 30 years of ownership, this car has been there from this star’s early days and seen many successes, but it has come time for Mustang Sally to hit the road. Oh, don’t worry about Mr. Hays not having a set of classic wheels, he still owns that ‘66 VW bus, and it is not for sale! Financing

Finance rates as low as 8.9%.

We know that classic car financing can pose a unique challenge. Although a vintage or exotic car can be an excellent investment, some financial institutions attempt to apply standard “used car” rules for financing a classic car, which in many cases can make loan approval difficult.

We work closely with many banking institutions that understand and recognize the collector value of classic cars and view them as an investment, which allows us to help you get the financing you need so that you can have the car you have dreamed of.

Terms available up to 144 Months
