Spring has finally arrived to most of the United States and it is time to start planning some fun activities centered around enjoying and showing off your classic or antique automobile. If you have been on the fence just watching, makes this the season you get out and join in the fun.
Participate in a car show
Think your car is not ready for showing? Not necessarily. While few cars are ready for the Concours d’Elegance, many local car shows welcome interesting vehicles in just about any condition, or state of completion. You will have a great time talking to other care people who are interested in what makes your car special to you and you will make new friends who share your enthusiasm. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to get out and drive with purpose.
Swarm a Swap Meet
Swap meets are tremendous fun and a great way to source rare and hard to find parts for your classic car. You can often find great deals that you would never otherwise uncover, and the opportunity to do a little face to face haggling can save you even more. You will also take in the sights and sounds and meet knowledgeable and colorful characters in the process. Get out and experience one!
Hit the Drive-In
While there are far fewer today than at their peak of popularity, drive-in theaters are enjoying a revival with a few more opening every year in the U.S. With around 400 in operation, chances are you can find one close enough to make it an adventurous night out in your classic car. What better way to fully enjoy the trip back in time that your classic car provides than to experience a movie just like in the good old days? Even if the movie isn’t memorable, the evening definitely will be.
Take to the track
Not every classic car was built with a race track in mind, but for those fortunate enough to own a classic Corvette, Jaguar, Austin Healey, or one of the many other capable sporting cars of the past, a track day should definitely be on your to-do list. There are numerous tracks around the country offering vintage meets and events, and getting your classic out there in a safe and controlled environment will take your driving enjoyment to an all new level. In addition to the excitement of the track, you will be surrounded with others who are passionate and willing to share their automotive knowledge, making your driving and ownership experience all the more richer.
